Summer Blockbuster Tutorial Sneak Peek
I’ve been busily working on the first tutorial in my video tutorial series. Here is a sneak peek of what I’ve been cooking up. I’ll be updating this page over the next 2 weeks with more sample images prior to the final launch, so check back often for the latest info.
The first tutorial in the series is my take on the summer blockbuster look. In the tutorial I break down the look, explain the colour theory behind why it works, I then breakdown the node structure behind the look in an easy to understand format and then show you exactly how to achieve it inside Resolve.
April 10 Update: Below is a Red Epic shot by Toby Linden that I grade in the tutorial. The video is taking a bit longer than expected, but I’m trying to put in the ground work early on, so I’ve got a strong foundation for future video tutorials.

Below is Red Epic 5K 2.4:1 footage of a watch I shot. In the tutorial I grade this footage to match the look of Mission Impossible – Ghost Protocol. I show you exactly how it’s done and will make available the original R3Ds so you can follow along.
Below the watch I’ve included some screengrabs of Ghost Protocol to show you the look I’m trying to match.

Amazing looking stuff – really looking forward to your tutorials. Also your thoughts on workflow would be appreciated, I’m editing in Premiere and grading in Da Vinci and there is no concensus online regarding best practice. Currently I aim at: Edit raw in PP, send to Da Vinci and grade, send back to PP for final noise reduction, sharpening, stabilisation etc.

Hello Juan! I am very intrigued by your 10th april’s update! Can’t wait for tutorial ant checking your blog everyday. This is a new science for me. Science of color. I will be glad a lot if you can give to us a tips of overal view of image. I mean not about color correction. A lot of links and books and videos in the web just about cc. I think this point is clarifyed. What I personally want to hear is a tips how to “view” picture in your mind before any grading. What parts of it should I make important. If you remember I asked you at reduser about level of the picture and why you chose it (lowkey). Technically many people and me can corrections and varios grades. A lot of grades on redusers too. But only your grades (and Mattew Scott’s grades) looks perfect and very very professional. That because I sit here now and dreaming about to get a bit of your vision. Thank you!
